Just feed it a berry and keep exiting the catch screen and clicking it till you don’t see the berry. When you don’t see the berry it’s a guarantee a background.

This is because the bg is determined on the click of the psyduck so when you don’t see the berry it’s a new psyduck with the bg

For those wanting to get a background psyduck I just did this trick I saw on reddit and it really does work. Use a berry on it and run from it and re encounter it until the berry icon is gone then catch it. It might take a few minutes for the berry icon to dissappear but it does work

Your best bet is to either find another gym to try and try coins from, or learn to spoof and abuse rural gyms and do the same.
I know it’s probably not what you wanna hear, but it’s the sad truth.

assuming its a nesting species in general, you can always check the hotspot nests in #nest_report and teleport to each one to see if its nesting at any of them. other method is using live maps (pinned in this channel) and filter for it
