In the same town, I just saw a Weedle nest “shift” up to Baltoy, which under a normal shift means nothing else can be earlier than it (in dex order), but I also saw a Luvdisc nest “shift” down to Slakoth, which wouldn’t be possible in a normal shift. Yup. Imagine all nests get assigned a random decimal number between 0 to 1 (think of it like a percentage of that helps). The nest list for your hemisphere is sorted in dex order, then it goes that much “percentage” up the list to decide the nest. That number doesn’t change [for that nest] until next migration/shuffle.

It means in a normal shift, if you know what was added/removed, you can guess what species could have shifted to the desired species too

E.g. when Mankey was removed (if it was the only thing removed last time), any old Mankey nests had a 14% chance to shift to Paras or 86% chance to shift to Seel (in the North)

You don’t have to know all the nitty gritty details, but it usually easy to remember if you’re looking for a certain species and nests have shifted (not migrated), then you just need to check for nests next to it in dex order (for the hemisphere your in). E.g. Paras nests might be in old Oddish/Mankey nests after a shift in the north, or Combee nests might be in old Kricketot/Buneary nests in the south.

Nest mechanics are fascinating to me, but I might be a nerd too. 🤓
