#How do I play against Olympia (ranno pov)

@copper jolt 🎺
thats fine
As Ranno alot of the time I feel like we getting out-mashed due to her very good buttons, so the key is to use you're more broken buttons at the right time
- Dash-attack is great for punishing her landing aerials, and properly spaced ones can be pretty safe to Bait and punish with
- Needles are your best friend, they are your best tools to press buttons on oly at range and contest her burst options, as many of them lose to needles or are beaten by having just 1 charge of it.
- Edgeguarding, you have a great edgeguard vs Oly, while her up B can be annoying, needles on landing/when it ends + needles to cover many of her other options means you havea areally good rinse repeat into her
- like clairen you can also do bubble shenanigans to force her to have more lag by abusing hitpause
getting to stage against oly is all about
mixing your timing and playing around crystal
alot of the time you're gonna have to just eat a crystal pop
but if you can tech the wall before she can do anything off of it
you're relatively ok
you have options like tech-> DJ bair
or wavelanding into an option
reminder that Ranno's up B is also
hilariously disjointed
so you can contest them if they hang on the ledge
just be ready to tech if it trades
uhh as for your advantage its pretty standard
i find that like
you can callout oly mashing pretty simply with tongue until they start respecting it
she's slow on the ground so its hard for her to do anyhting if she commits to any button
unlike some really fast characters who can whiff and then dash back oly can't in a good amount of situations
being able to call out oly's options out of disadvantage is vital
you have to kinda be patient in tech chase situations or you're gonna get jab/dtilt on wakeup and then she'll just combo you instead
I wish i had my games against link of origin cause i feel like they were good showings of an oly rinse repeat edgeguard
(Speaking as an Oly player)
All of these are accurate. I'll double down on Needles, Oly really struggles against any kind of projectiles or disjoint. Good projectile use will stuff out basically all of Oly's approach options, and with needles you can launch more than one at once which will also break her down special armor + actually incur hitstun while she has no counter.
Ranno and Oly have fairly even edgeguards over each other. Oly's crystal can catch Ranno riding up the wall, so unless you commit to wall jumping out just to break it (and then recover from there) you will likely get caught by it. But Oly doesn't have any way to recover around needles. And if you wait near the ledge, your long lasting nair can beat out most any angle she chooses to take back to stage. If possible, I recommend using bubble + tongue to add some mix-ups at a minimum, but if you recover high and fast you will likely have a somewhat better chance at recovering. She can intercept you, but it's way harder than just waiting to pop crystal.
Keep in mind that while Oly has great buttons overall, she's overall fairly slow and whiff punishable. Once she gets in, you'll make it count because that's basically all she does as a character. If you can box her out and edgeguard with some consistency, that's really all you'll need to win - your better overall speed and needles can help make that happen.
