Aside from adapting normally here (maybe break out into multiple playstyles possibly? I cant be specific on the roa part) Id have to say try to get a few steps ahead in figuring out what they’re learning. Playing against friends often (or you could perhaps call it playing against a rival often) often ends up like a 5d chess game.

#

Its not just about whos getting better but its also about who’s figuring the other person out quicker, or if im making a quote here,
“Play the player not the game.”

a practice partner is great for that yeah

#

you just have to adapt over time as you would normally

#

pick up on habits and blindspots in their gameplay and exploit them

#

they'll probably change those habits, then you need to adapt again

#

notice what habits they're exploiting from you, too

IMO it sounds like you're dealing with a mental block. You're winning more than they are, you pointed out some things to work on, and you even mention having a better win rate with a character separate from your main. Throughout this thread you also seem to have general frustration around playing against this individual, despite already coming out on top (not to say you can't win and not also be frustrated, but you get the idea).

When playing against someone like that for so many hours, it becomes an entirely different game. For me, Melon and Pinden are probably the two people I've played the most individual hours against - games with them are extremely pendulum-swingy because we are fighting the player and their habits more than anything else (the more "human" the more unpredictable). We also get inside each other's heads and our gameplans get thrown way off track. It takes a lot of mental stamina to keep level headed in those situations.

Personally, I'd recommend doing vod review with another person (ideally with someone who doesn't know this friend of yours). The pure outside perspective would help. When reviewing, I'd recommend trying to separate your friend from the interactions happening in game, pretend they are a stranger you matched with in Casual. Distance yourself from the thoughts of "but I know this" and "they always do that" so you can break the mental block that's keeping you from analyzing and understanding things pragmatically.

You also use plats

#

And we probably played like 30 hours total

#

Half of it casually with random stuff
