Hi, does anyone have any tips for how to move more effectively? Things like wavedashing and dash dancing, kinda seems like everyone i play against glides around the map and I can't keep up. I can kinda wavedash but sometimes I end up doing a shortstop airdodge, making it Inconsistent for me to try in real matches. Any tips would be helpful, thanks

The short answer is that it just comes with time and conscious practice. If you're air dodging it's likely you're not doing the inputs fast enough. You can press shield and a direction at the same time very quickly after jumping and it should work because it's meant to be more lenient in this game
Try full hopping and air dodging with a horizontal direction, but as two distinct inputs. Gradually bring the inputs closer together until they are very close
Also practice wavelanding (wavedashing with a transition the platform and the stage) you can do this by full hopping close to a platform and timing the horizontal dodge when you see your character go above the platform. This takes a lot of practice to get right, and every stage has different platform heights therefore different waveland timings, so don't beat yourself up if you don't get it right away .
Dash dancing just involves getting used to your dash length. Try dashing in one direction across the stage first. And as far as implementing them I would say it's best to do it with purpose instead of imitating what you see
To that end, there are 3 basic timings that you should start with in my opinion.
- dash dance once (forward and back)
- twice (forward and back two times)
- thrice (u guessed it, same as above with anotber back and forth)
We'll call those phrases. You can decide what to do after each dash dance phrase, but the easiest thing to do is dash attack obviously
But experiment with everything you can think of, every single aerial, what happens when you try and do a special input, what about into shield, what about into grab? And what happens when I dash backward before dashing forwards (reverse the phrase)? All of these ideas should percolate inside your noggin given a few weeks
And something I would say is a bit separate from the phrases above is to just dash back once to bait an opponent into attacking the space you were just occupying
Think dash back shorthop bair as the first thing to try. The bair is meant to hit an opponent who commits to attacking you and whiffs
You might run into a problem. (I can't do all my other moves out of this dash back, what gives? This sucks??)
Well that's where wavedashing backwards comes into play. With clairen you can implement jab and all her tilts while doing this. Buffer the tilt input during the slide and try to press the attack button after wavedash lag you should be fine that way.
How quick do I have to be when implementing a tilt during my slide? I've tried doing that but I just always end up dash attacking instead
Ah yeah, gotta be a bit faster. There are I think 10 frames of input lag while wavedashing, but I'm not sure how you have to time it with 6 frames of buffer. Basically try it going forward first since you can already hold that direction
Then backwards after you feel yourself press the trigger for shield, move your stick forward. Try going into walk first if you can
But if you have tilt stick you don't even have to worry about it, just use the right stick to do the tilt
Hmm would you recommend tilt stick over smash stick for clairen then?
I chose a new control scheme for this game over smash
Tilt stick and dedicated strong button (r button for me)
Smash stick doesn't feel good to me so I turned it off and just had a dedicated button
I can't really recommend anything because it's all personal preference I guess just try the control scheme that gives you the least friction, and if they all do, might just take some hours
do you think using d-pad is optimal ?
IMO tilt stick is almost always better because it removes a layer of precision, and reduces your chances of error.
