Sorry about the quality but this is the range that most people would have when fighting moon lord, right? The daybreak does actually do more damage when the explosions start happening and you have more range which makes it better, if you used the solar eruption (which already deals less damage) you'd eventually have to dodge attacks and when doing so you might not have the range required to hit the boss which would result in even lower damage. But if you facetanked and stood right next to the boss for the entire fight then ofc the solar eruption would be better (but facetank is always better for melee)
So daybreak > solar eruption

the hallow doesn't consume the jungle, the jungle prevents the hallow from being there (mostly)
So it's still vulnerable to crimson

hardmode is mroe difficult but after you beat the wall of flesh it opens up alot of more things and lets you progress
but if you want to just build for a bit, its better to stay in prrehardmode since you can build and make farms without worrying about stronger enemies
