Ok, I think a solid strategy is to get a magic conch or potion of return and if you get in a dangerous position to teleport away to recover. The destroyer won’t despawn due to you running away, so you can heal and then go back to fighting

and then you need to know how mobs spawn... theres a range to that, they spawn within 168x94 tiles of the player, so 84 blocks to your left or right, then 47 blocks up and down roughly. Also mobs always spawn on a block (dont spawn in air), and they can't spawn in lava or player placed background walls. so you can use lava to make it so mobs cant spawn in some places.
