the key to beating plantera as a summoner is a larger arena and being fast

a teleport setup also works

you could fool around with the old ones army summon weapons or try out the bladestaff

or get really lucky with the sangquine staff

armor wise try to grind out the spider set or both the old ones sets. Hallowed armor summoner helmet also works. if you are wearing the obsidian set then you are ok

make sure your accessories have a Pygmy Necklace and summoners emblem as well as berserkers glove for extra DPS on whips. also try to get movement accessories with the warding/Menacing modifier

and like what Silver said make a big arena and don't overdo the platforms. if you want to be safer then grind out the teleport strat
