The OoA sets focus more so on sentries which are placed in a specific area. As you won't be moving around as often, you're given more defense as a compromise for having more sentries and also a secondry class of weapons available

The melee hybrid ones have the most defense in particular though

I hate the start of hardmode so much man - As soon as I kill the wall of flesh I just think to myself "what part of my world is screwed up now?". I don't know if anyone else does this, but I just make backups of my character and world right before I fight the WoF, and once I kill it, I go into T-Edit just to see which part of my world got screwed up, and if the corruption got put on the jungle side, I just reload the backup and do it again.

Best advice I can give is to make a new small world, go to that and rush to the oceans if you're fine with using one character on multiple worlds. Otherwise, without the clentaminator - There isn't really much else you can do sadly.
