As long as you've got a good piercing weapon, you should be fine for that fight.
I tend to fight underground so I can stunlock with the slimy saddle though.. Not sure how different it'd be if you fight on the surface

Slime staff is especially good for farms, an example being the ocean arapamia farm bcs when using the lucky coin you get money from hitting the enemies, what makes the slime staff so good is that it does low damage and constantly hits the enemies
