Well. That's the tricky part about mediumcore.

You're gonna have to speedrun for stronger gear. Use building blocks to keep enemies away while you're mining the stronger ores. Fishing can get you some weapons, and same with buying from some npcs like the gun dealer guy

You were lied to, you should use life crystals as soon as you get them to increase your max hp. You use a suspicious looking eye to summon the eye of cthulhu, which can be crafted at a demon altar with lenses.

Whenever you're at 200 health the eye of cthulhu can naturally spawn. The most ideal thing to do is sit at 180 health until you get enough life crystals to max out your health. That way you aren't fighting it at 200 health, instead at 400 health.
