After you get the seeds just go for blood water and infect 300 stone blocks in an underground farm

If you want it go faster you could also get water candles, battle pots, more luck (for soul and key drops) and maybe even a blood moon

did you add them as a friend on steam?

choose multiplayer on the title screen -> host and play -> choose the world

after you setup your game and choose the password you can invite your friend via the pause menu
