I mean, the subdile etc does have a cooldown, but you can use it to skip random events like eclipse while youāre trying to sleep day to day to rush quests.
If youāre a builder it can also help to make a bunch of artificial underground fishing areas right next to eachother for biome fishing. Another pro tip is for every quest if you put the wuest fish in a chest or piggy bank you can fish up multiple quest fish and save them for speed running quests instead of having to travel every quest to a fishing hole.

Or just get the quest fish, put it in a personal storage (piggy bank/ void bag etc) letting you catch more. When the quest is about to reset change your characters name every time you hand one in (then angler will recognise you as a different player)

Please include difficulty, and special seed modifiers if thatās included.
My general rule of thumb is Defense at lower difficulties as dmg isnāt an issue and defense makes a big difference. So for normal/expert.
For master/legendary one or 2 hits are bound to kill you, so youre usually better off stacking more dmg like KT said and learning patterns. Thereās been a big argument between crit =/> dmg but my general rule is for high crit weapons stack to 50-60% and go dmg. For weapons that already have low base crit but high base dmg just stack more dmg.

Weapon options are:
Solar Eruption, daybreak, terrablade(with stacked atk speed on accessories modifiers)
Armor options:
Beetle armor (upgrades from turtle armor)
Chlorophite armor is still a dmg option
Clever players will mix T3 old ones army armor with parts of other sets for dmg boosts.
Even with the defense dmg reduction youāre not hitting important break points.
The way to think about it is
Can I survive 2 hard hits? Yes
Can I get enough defense to survive one more without healing? Yes(stack defense) no? Stack dmg.

beetle armor with shell and daybreak, some good wings
When theyāre asking about moon lord specifically, at lower difficulties you can very easily hit breakpoints to survive more hits, in some cases just stacking it enough to invalidate certain mobs.
In master mode, unless youāre going for beetle armor, most classes donāt have options to break past the 3 hit breakpoint so dmg just becomes better for the fight to make it quicker and thus avoiding dmg by time instead
defense helps for moon lord, he has hard-hitting attacks but he also has attacks that just wear you down
Basically after you break into master and legendary, defense matters only for some bosses. For example defense lets you break point for queen bee, so defense stacking is great. Moon lord on legendary, defense on anything besides melee might as well be an act in futility
Another way to think about it is kill time vs hits tankable.
With the amount of health legendary mode moonlord has along side things like moon boulders, defense doesnāt matter much.
I can stack 7 warding accessories to maybe survive 3 boulders instead of 2, but if I stack a mix of lucky and menacing for crit and dmg, the fight time might half, meaning I donāt have to dodge as much across the entire fight, lowering chances to wear out and make a mistake
The reason I recommend defense stacking at normal/expert is very rarely is kill time an issue, and if you stack as much defense as you can have at X point, you can stat check the bosses. Say sitting on Eater of Worlds and out dmging him/healing off parts. Same thing for queen bee, you can make her dmg a non factor.
Same isnāt possible in legendary, so defense becomes more situational for bosses. Some bosses like queen bee itās still useful, other bosses like moon lord or empress it isnāt as much.
With enough prep you can still cheese it yes. But most people A: donāt want to cheese bosses and B: wonāt put the time into old ones army for the stats to do it.
defense is always superior to damage, even in legendary, until you reach early/mid hardmode, then it starts to become a tradeoff, but its still useful all the way to moon lord
Itās like you can just make a sky play and drop boulders on the destroyer but why would you.
Only for melee a lot of the time. If the equation we are using is hits total survivable/time, the offense wins out on more than half the bosses. If your a stats major then the āBiSā setups are usually a mix for every boss depending on breakpoints, but itās not worth the time and effort to adjust your accessories every boss just to breakpoint

The general idea is they calculated it like this.
With regen/potions, how many hits can you take over the course of a fight with the same load out, only changing modifiers, divided by the fights time. If you can take double the hits, but the fight takes double the tome, itās equal to taking half the hits, but the fight takes half the time.

Yep. For legendary modes, even defense stacking certain bosses just hit too hard for defense to matter. Youāre not hitting breakpoint for one more hit a lot of the time. Skeletron being a good example as if you die in that fight, defense or not itās the head thatās going to kill you, not the hands. And even with 24 extra def with most classes, you arnt living another hit with more defense.

yeah, if youre getting hit by skeletrons head thats a problem, youre dying quickly whether you go full damage or not
For me itās usually an issue with V sync, refresh rate, or the monitor size vs game settings. Make sure you have the right size settings in game

Thatās the point though. Defense only matters if youāre getting hit. Dmg always matters. The unbiased statistics take skill out of the equation. They are assuming youāre getting hit every time you can get hit.
If we bring āskill issueā into the equation dmg is always better.

Usually if Iām deciding on wether I want armor or not for a boss fight, Iām calculating based on what Iām most likely to get hit by, and if I realistically going to survive an extra hit or 2. If I canāt, I prio a quicker fight over dodging more.

For skeletron for example I almost never get hit by hands or skull projectiles, itās almost always happening to dash and bounce off the wizards or hands into the head thats killing. So I do dmg to shorten the fight and reduce the chance for a mess up.

Yes because itās more than halved the fight time. Legendary mode usually is 2-3 hits to death for most bosses. If I can make that 4-5 hits Iām stacking defense. If I canāt Iām probably stacking dmg.
defense gets better the more you stack it, if youre not using buffs than full warding is not nearly as good as it is without buffs

Legend mode kills you with lapses in focus. If you get caught by one hit, your usually take 2 or 3. Most of the time your better of just not taking as many hits

Yes, because crit isnāt a linear increase, and because the part of the fight im most likely to get caught out is the beginning half with hand. By not having to dodge as long, it increases my dmg output over the course of the fight. And letās me get to the latter half where I can just unload
If you play legendary as a mage or summoner without using melee at all youāll get what a lot of us dmg>defense people are on about.

The reason the return in ādiminishingā on crit is because the increase from say 25 to 50 is more significant than the increase of 50 to 75 and thatās more apparent the more times you roll that chance.

If your at 80% crit for example. Based on how youāre doing your math 84% crit is as effective as 80% crit and 4% dmg, which isnāt true.

All up to personal preference. Though itās generally agreed it goes melee, magic, ranged, summoner, but if you take zenith out of the equation it becomes a lot closer. Those stats donāt take into consideration things like whip buff mixing etc too which makes summoner compete for first.

Having say 90% crit and 90% dmg increase doesnāt give the same increase to average dmg as say 75% crit and 105% dmg. The later is more effective.

If you actually calculated and tested in game, I can 100% tell you that the ratio I just gave you in more effective than a balanxed ratio.
Also for the same thing, crit% is more effective than dmg percent at lower percents. Up till around 60ish. Even if you go around watching all the videos in the world terraria specific talking about crit vs dmg, they will echo that crit is better to a point, and after said point dmg outclasses it, which also depends on the weapons base dmg numbers.
To that sentiment you can look up the same calculation for almost any game that calculates crit and dmg increase the same way terraria does and they will echo it as well.
Also in that equation you have to include the ratio that a crit actually amplified your dmg.

and I would agree that crit is better than damage, but specifically for normal enemies and especially when weapons do less damage, just because the %damage increases are not likely to kill the enemies in fewer hits, but for bossfights it evens itself out since theres so much health
Crit is only better than dmg to a point. Even on bosses, if you already have say 80% crit and 80% dmg, increasing dmg is better than increasing crit even after you have an unbalanced number like 80% crit and 150% dmg.
try the calculation, the only thing that would skew it in favor of damage in practice is if the boss has a lot of defense, since crit affects the damage after defense is taken into account

Calculating probability based on hits makes things a bit less clear cut. Itās worth a bit of research. Iām sure thereās a terraria based statistic spreadsheet out there somewhere.

I made a calc for dps a while ago and this is what I go for
Ranger: 4 menacing, 3 lucky to give me the highest average dps without incessant optimisation every time I get a new weapon/ armour/ accessory
Full lucky for melee due to the sharpening station + ichor flasks, a decrease in enemies defence benefits crit
Summoner: Full menacing for obvious reasons
Mage: Havenāt tested enough to say

If he calculated off say 9+ accessories slots the rations would end up being more like 40% more dmg than crit as you get higher becuase crit will become less effective compared to dmg the more you can get of it
Why not just test optimal/ near optimal setups for each stage against a boss for realistic results and see whatās best

It was based on the entire calculation for effective dmg. Ask the op if you doubled the amount of accessories you could have what the golden ratio would be. If you calculated off that same line, the more accessories you couple possible get, the wider the gap between how much dmg you will want over crit chance.

Basically as you get closer and closer to 100% crit, dmg becomes more and more effective vs crit.
In that post, his golden ratio was 62 crit 86 dmg. Or around 20% more dmg > crit in endgame. If it was possible to break past those number with more accessories say with mods and you kept running those tests, the gap would get bigger and bigger. The stat total heās working off of is around 148% worth of stats. If he was working off 200% or more of stats the rations would get bigger and bigger between the gaps. Say 40% more dmg% over crit. 74% crit 126 dmg.
a ratio devised from calculating defense of enemies, not one from saying that probability of rolling a crit gives diminishing returns

The basic concept Iām trying to explain is change is calculated like this. If I say roll a dice, itās 20% or 1/6. But in reality itās (1/6)^1 (power of 1). Letās say you roll the dice 60 times. The assumption is that you will roll 10 of every number. Or have a 16.6% chance. Interestingly enough if you calculate say your chance to get 10 of an individual number out of 60 rolls, the math is (1/6)^10 * (5/6)^50 or 13.7%

Because crit chance/100 run x amount of times makes the actual or effective percent different than youād thing. And how much lower that true percent is gets bigger and bigger the high you go. The way that calculation runs is kinda like this. If 1/6 run 80 times is 13%~ youād think ever percent youād go up would increase that chance by an equal amount, but it doesnāt. That gap is the reason that probability statistics show diminishing returns on a āchance to hitā. The way that work with crit statistics makes each 1% for example you gain past a certain point less effective by a very very small amount. Which is why a flat dmg increase becomes better as there isnāt the same diminishing returns.

Because the way games calculate crit chance is using an equation like that š either way. There are ways to strip it down and run it. And if the math ran the way yāall think it does then crit % and Dmg % would increase dps equally not matter how high. Both climb up to 100. It would be exactly as Dino said where youād want say 80% crit and 80% dmg. It wouldnāt matter. But because of the way crit actually calculates itās more like 70% crit and 90% dmg is more effective.

Im not sure you need dangerous jungle wall. If it exists then by all means use it anyway. Something else to remember is Jungle enemies spawn from jungle grass made jungle biomes not Temple blocks I thinkg

so in the world creation screen you have an option between corruption or crimson they are the 2 world evils and most worlds can only have 1 so you can choose which one you want or you can go random. For the difficulties: journey mode is sort of a creative option, classic is the easiest option, expert mode introduces new ai and accessories mainly, master has increased health and new mounts/pets, calamities is a terraria mod available through tmodloader
Master is just "Expert with more HP". The game does not really change, which makes me sad.

Yes. Just take a character with those items into a world with that difficulty
All except Journey difficulty, yes.
yes, you can create an expert world and take your character that was on your classic world onto expert. Only for journey mode can you not take a classic character over to a journey world

Then you go to your evil biome(Either a Scary Purple place or a scary Red Place) and you try to find an altar. The version of the purple one, called the Corruption, is like a table with teeth pointing up. The one for the red, which is Caled crimson, is like a bulbous pile of flesh with some eyes on it
And with 30 gel and a crown, you can make the slime crown, which summons the first boss you should tackle

Abigales flower is great! If you die, put a couple graves next to grass near spawn. The red flower is abigals flower, a decent ghost summon that gets stronger the more you summon it
