Not so much anymore. Melee getting Blade of Grass, Starfury, and Light's Bane early on is a huge boon in its favour, and (at least last I checked) both the evil armours have specific melee benefits over other classes

In Normal Mode you should just go with Menacing. +4% damage is always +4% damage, but 4 defence will only take 1 damage away per hit taken. In Expert it's really truly personal preference. Master I'd argue you should just pick up warding. -4 damage taken per hit is pretty nice, though if you're comfortable enough with the game +4% damage is still very good.

i was beating moonlord for first time and i used a pool of honey, heart lantern, campfire, charm of myths and star veil. with beetle armour and solar eruption and i was healing just fine, but went i went to do that in calamity the moonlord prevents healing from his toungue

Mm, mostly it's just been inconsistency recently. They added new liquid in 1.4.4, and its effects aren't really described or explained anywhere, and they certainly don't follow any generic-case rules.
And of course the thing that it gives you invulnerability, but only sometimes (when bosses are alive or events are active, but it doesn't tell you that).
Also temple. God I hate what they've done with temple. You're telling me I can get in with 3 platforms, but using teleporters, actuators, rod of discord, pylon, teleportation potion, phasing debuff, etc doesn't work? The cheapest method of entry works, but none of the more expensive ones.

Melee swing speed also. Some things aren't affected by 100% of your melee swing stat. Which ones aren't? Ehh check the wiki -- the player has no way of knowing what these rules or cases are, and it can seem completely random to someone who doesn't know

Sure, first off.. How would a player without access to a wiki garner this knowledge? Trial and error for every little thing? And even then, they don't get numbers or specific rules, just a general intuition about it.
Having to have a wiki page open on the side ruins the immersion, you're constantly being brought back to the "circle" that is your desk, your PC, and a 2D screen.
Furthermore, at what point are you playing the game, if you're just following the wiki? It's so easy to fall into the pit of following a guide and then never exploring a game. Terraria does have some things that can just be found or learnt, ie that don't require a wiki on-hand, but if you're already following a wiki or guide, you're more likely to follow that than whatever the game tells you.
I honestly, and quite firmly, believe games should never be designed with the intent being that the player needs to have a wiki open to know or learn about mechanics. There should be a clear, general-case rule that the player can learn, and follow or use to their advantage. These latest additions aren't that, though, and I think that's a shame.

It's not the wiki that's the issue here, the issue is that the player does not get any information ingame about some things, some of them are significant.

I'm considering a handful of things currently.
Regarding inconsistent effects I mentioned above, I'd probably just resolve those with either tooltips (ex; melee weapon has 25% melee speed effect or whatever), or by making behaviour the same all-around (rod of discord for example should not mysteriously not work to teleport into temple).
There were a few others I didn't mention. Dodge items like Black Belt and Brain of Confusion don't work on OHKO enemies (Dungeon Guardian, Daytime EoL, namely). I'm of the opinion these should still work, honestly -- it might make it a little easier, but it doesn't create cheese methods. Luck also is a little funny, it affects enemy drops but not grab bag drops?

I think the ingame message there is pretty clear. It doesn't have the most clarity, I hear you, but it directs the player somewhere. Players also unlock chlorophyte, which gives them another reason to be there.

Perhaps, but I don't think it's a bad thing to design it to function in a vacuum. I can for sure understand players going to wikis or other players for micro optimisations (eg, prefixes, arena builds, whatever), but it should not also be necessary for less minute details.

I get where you're coming from, really, but I earnestly believe that Terraria can and should be something the player does not ever need to rely on external sources to find information about.
Taking a similar example as provided above, how is the player expected to know that dodge effects don't work for Dungeon Guardian/Daytime EoL? They work everywhere else (player can dodge fall damage, spikes, traps, lava, enemies, projectiles, other players, whatever), but not those 2 specific things?
Or for the new liquid, I think I've actually already seen a case of people asking why they can't de-craft timers or bricks.

Clam has a boss fight, in the jungle iirc, where the player's flight time is cut in half. It doesn't suddenly disappear, players would be convinced it's a bug. Nono, the player gets a clear message and I think a debuff which indicate something at least.

Death message is certainly an idea. I might do that if toggle is off for allowing dodges to work in OHKO scenarios. I'm partial to just letting them work, I think it's a fair use of an intended mechanic, and I don't think I know anyone that likes EoL fight, especially not in multiplayer.

I've done something in my current playthrough I don't think I've ever done, I switched classes halfway through. I was Melee through the whole of Pre Hardmode and switched to mage when I got to Hardmode when I got the Shadowflame Hex Doll. I even got the Orange Zappinator from the Traveling Merchant

Invis pots don’t do anything with duke he only targets the person who spawns him or sometimes someone who hits him and has higher target priority, for some reason my target priority doesn’t work, it may be because I’m using summoner armor but IDK

We always get further with my mage friend who can actually dodge spawning him, it’s weird.

It’s down to trial and error

Our summoner friend is also the best at dodging but he’s summoner snd can’t do third or sometimes second phase well

In a way, hood alone can provide the survivability of a tank set up but to compensate you'd have to switch to hood. While a tank set up doesn't have to switch nor does really care and can stay using mask. I'd say it's fairly even if you're switching on and off the mask for the gc set up
