What I did was first dig the uppermost and lowermost half of the tunnel manually using Pixacke. Then for the remaining middle part, I used dynamites. Once a segment of the tunnel is cleared, I filled the topmost and lowermost part with stone slabs

this is a very diffucult process especially if your cutting through the desert (because of the falling sand and such) and jungle (because of the sheer volume of enemies, esepcially hornets at cavern layer)

because of the sheer amount of tunnels I made, I demand a "Dwarf" role in this server

hellwing also has some applicability after wall for destroyer since it can pierce a lot, there are better weapons obviously but if you're lazy then hellwing is an option

No, not really. Containment shafts generally aren't necessary anymore because you can simply Clentaminate the Jungle upon your return after beating a Mech boss.

Before I start working it out, did you get a result of whether frost or mythril is better? mythril has high crit which would make up for it's low base damage but frost grants the frostburn debuff

I'd say frost because I don't think the damage would be raised enough to outmatch it

Basically the trick to copper shortsword only killing destroyer is to facetank destroyer and make sure the copper shortsword hits through his face to his second segment so you get 2 hits per attack.
And use sharpening station, sharktooth necklace, stinger necklace, warrior emblem, cobalt shield or better, and lightning boots or better to run on asphalt to lead destroyer along behind.
My calculations with pure damage focus was over 88K but then I realized the strategy needs the right accessories to work so I swapped it out and it was around 82K after so it's doable for sure.

I have some ideas that might make expert mode possible with copper shortsword only too but it's pure madness involving circling the destroyer underwater so he forms a loop overlapping himself to land quadruple hits so I'm not going to try to work out that madness for a while but I think it'd be so much cooler to do that than freeze time and just poke destroyer for 5+ hours with a full tank build.

How did you get over 80k in one night? I got 32,832.

I tried max dps at first but destroyers defence lowers the dps to something stupid like 3, so I tried necklaces and it’s still too low

And I was able to use the hallowed mask because the adamanite mask wouldn’t increase the dps enough to give the copper shortsword +1 damage, the extra 3% crit from hallowed was therefore better

A tank setup would be most realistic either way, despite you doing like 1-2dps you pretty much can't die granted journey mode time freeze since it wouldn't be possible to kill it in one night anyway

Destroyer's head has 0 defense so you can get another 49248 damage on top of that 32832 in the night for a total of 82080 by face tanking destroyer so you hit his face and second segment at the same time.
By running on asphalt you can kite destroyer along and stay perfectly placed to hit his face and second segment at the same time with each hit.

It does if you position yourself inside destroyer's face. I tried it, it works lol

I know we're talking about theoretical damage but positioning yourself inside the destroyers face will get you killed 💀 ... fighting the destroyer and trying to hit constantly without a tank setup is super unrealistic either way though... so ig I can't criticize

Classic destroyer doesn't do too crazy of damage and the armor is quite tanky. I haven't tested regen and such but I think a few heart statues might be enough to manage.
I need more testing to be sure but it look doable

Actually yeah, I knew classic damage was low but not that low 💀 thought the head would still deal too significant damage against you to outlive it when constantly attacked

bast statue + campfires + heart lanterns, etc would make you unkillable or near that

I came up with another strategy just now too.
Not sure how well it'd work in practice but by leading destroyer along his body will be stretched out and a hoik could maybe let each copper shortsword attack hit several segments

Might require too much setup for each pass.

Yeah, it's a bit finicky to control him if you're not staying in a narrow space in front of him

Leading him in a straight line is easy enough but the moment I take a hoik to run across his body slicing the whole way down he's off to do his own thing again
