You can downgrade ores via Shimmer. Alt ores like Titanium turn into the initial versions, so Adamantite. This doesn't work the other way around.

If you've beaten all 3 Mechanical Bosses, the Chlorophyte Extractinator can be used to swap normal ores into alt ores and back.

Almost every game has some form of prize after beating the final boss, terraria’s is just gear

Even stuff like Legend of Zelda will have extra stuff after you beat the final boss even if it just sends you to right before the boss afterwords.
Or games with have things like New Game+
It’s just good to have a prize at the end of the game

Swords are not good for mech bosses (with the possible expection of nights edge or excalibur if you’ve beaten a mech boss) and I would recommend challenging either the twins or skeletron prime with yoyos

The WoF becomes lightning fast and you have to stay at close to medium range to maintain minion aggro and take down the Hungry with whips, while you can't exactly take a lot of damage without optimization.

Utilizing Vampire Frogs with Imps, Whip stacking and well placed Sentries along the fight path can make it a lot easier, however.

You can also throw a Blindfold into Shimmer if you have a duplicate. They're also much easier to find.
