if you place it in a chest and that chest is opened it gives all entities near the chest the poison debuff for 49 (classic)/98 (expert)/123 (master) seconds
when its used it becomes an item called the used gas trap but you can shimmer the used gas trap to renew it

Tring to mine out barriers to block the pearl stuff and also building sky bridges and hell bridges and boss areas is so ugh and when moving I always try and place blocks and movement is faster than placing so I walk off the bridge into the lava and the like.
