You can upgrade the cobalt shield into an obsidian shield with very little effort for another point of defense, it’s not huge but it’s basically a free upgrade (just a bit of obsidian).

Calamity is difficult, but plenty explorative. Regardless, modded is a new experience, and I reccomend starting with thorium regardless as your first mod.

my personal favorite way to play Thorium is with one of it's classes. Bard and Healer are intended for multiplayer, but can be used in singleplayer. I reccomend trying out the Bard class, it's REALLY fun.

with flaming arrows and a wooden (not pearlwood) bow it takes about 21 hours on master mode if I remember correctly, with venom on classic I would guess it'd take around 2 hours

depending on how well you avoid his healing. If you aren't avoiding it at all, then it would take much longer
