You need a nightmare pickaxe or a deathbringer pickaxe to mine hellstone. For a deathbringer pickaxe you need 12 crimtane bars and 6 tissue samples. Crimtane ore can be mined with a gold pickaxe. Tissue sample is dropped by the brain of chtulu (No need to kill, just damage). For a nightmare pickaxe you need 12 demonite bars and 6 shadow scales. Demonite ore can be mined with a gold pickaxe. i didnt want crimson to spread after hardmode so i blocked up everything before, i beat the mech bosses using crystal armor but when i wanted to make chlorophyte gear i realised i needed a adamantite/titanium forge and had to spend hours grinding to get one because the chance of getting it from an already rare crate is low
