I didn't know ropes can stop spread so building hellivators 3 wide with ropes on both sides should stop passthroughs, and plantboxes to help with vertical tunnels

It's easy, just farm vicious mushrooms, they grow on crimson grass. If you can't find any make a long strip of dirt (a few blocks ABOVE THE GROUND), defeat Eoc and plant the crimson seeds he drops in the long strip of dirt, then wait for the mushrooms to grow
It's also a good idea to stack make multiple strips upwards by separating them with enough space for you to go through
