It would be difficult to introduce modding due to company restrictions from the platforms. If it was just calamity it would still bring issues, due to the unbalanced manner of calamity progression and they would have to change calamity to be able to fit consoles, which would take forever. This is proven by how long its taken to update the game and introduce crossplay.
