solution one, have the person hosting the world leave, and rejoin
solution two, restart your terraria or/and have them restart their terraria
solution three, invite them to your world and if that works, have them be in in for 15 seconds, then try to join their world
solution four if none work, just make sure its a multiplayer world

to unlock the dungeon you have to be strong enough and then talk to the old man outside (at night) and he'll turn into a boss

After you kill him the old man will turn into an NPC that you can take in and the dungeon guardian won't kill you

killing the dungeon guardian (no matter what weapon you use you only deal 1 damage per second cause of his high defense) you get a special pet

for now just focus on building, mining, finding life crystals underground and getting enough gear to fight the eye of cthulhu
