I need you guys’ opinion on something. So I needed souls of light for the meteor staff to fight the destroyer in my pre-mech world. The problem is that in that world the hallow didn’t generate properly so getting souls of light is nearly impossible. To combat this i joined my post moon lord world and went to the unground hallow to farm souls of light. I didn’t take anything out of chests and promised not to take any loot from enemies I haven’t unlocked in my current play through. As I was farming I got a rod of discord. Is keeping it cheating? Should I trash it?

If you weren't farming and just grabbed the rod of discord from another playthough that would be "cheating"

Not much you can do about that aside from just doing the things again until you get them

If you get far in a pumpkin moon the drop rates get really high
