Shields as summoners are usually worth it because the knock back resistance, one or two hits of a boss is enough to kill a summoner

The Plantera and Duke Fishron fights are a lot easier with the shield. Plantera gives poison and stunlocks you, and Duke gives bleeding, which disables life regen.
