I'm creating a sky block, cleared out the world completely, and added back the biome chest and a couple islands with tedit, but I'm not sure what else is needed like the bare minimum needed to be able to have the game function properly, I have water and dirt, mud, 3 stone (for crystal trees) an alter, the old man, and one jungle seed, and sut blocks for silk, what else is needed?

You'll basically be fishing to get a lot of your resources, and using a solitaire provided to begin your game, and then branch out from there
