While fighting and beating the destroyer, all my NPCs were killed. For a very long time (weeks Terraria time) none would respawn. Finally the first 4 returned. But none since. All housing is good. No goblin raids. I’ve been playing for 10 real time hours after beating the destroyer and no more NPCs will respawn. The traveling merchant has appeared twice. I had over a dozen NPC before. Also no steampunker spawned. I redid Skeletron, Eye of Cth, but didn’t want redo the wall of flesh or destroyer again. Why won’t the NPCs return?

hmm, on Journey Mode, you can have Finch Staff in an instant but if you don't want journey mode, you can go find large trees and in their chests, you might find a Finch Staff

also, if you're really new to terraria, I won't recommend going for summoner immediately and would recommend a mixed class so you can explore the game more

Summoner is kinda hard to play if you just started the game, It means high damage but so damn low defense, so I reccomend playing in a normal world and just using any weapon you find

Also, you can check what you can craft with what you have in your inventory using the guide, that's a very useful tool
