bee armor is recommended for those who plan on using their summons more often instead of attacking, and obsidian gives you extra summoning dmg, range and speed

for the cost of one minion

so if you really don't use whips much, go for bee

if you're aggressive and like to use whip, use obsidian

other than that there's no other better summoner armor than those two during pre-hardmode
