There's a little button in the top right of your screen that looks like a Google maps symbol if you click in it you can enable/disable your minimap
If you use a controller you have to click the hand button in the top right then you use touch controls again and you'll see the maps symbol again
After that you can go back to gaming

And mine are often 150-250 blocks wide
