it's not that you need to protect the pylon, per se

Journey isn't really cheating, you should try it out, I like playing on it because I can stop the infection and take my time

Not the exact vanilla experience but I can chill out instead of worry about infection

You should turn on infection spread before beating wof though otherwise hallow won't spawn
