@valid kernel Lmao you need to make a WAN server. Terraria by default makes a LAN server, of which you cannot join without being on the same Wi-Fi network at the same time. You'll need to create an actual WAN server (most easily on PC) then port forward the server so your friend can use your public IP as the server location.

Until then, your worlds are stuck within LAN (Local Area Network)

An 'easier' (albeit somewhat sketchy) way would be to use the same VPN. Sometimes VPNs allow players to see each other using the VPN's WAN.

I however don't trust VPNs, so if in the same boat it's highly recommended to use the server method if possible, and the VPN method only for gaming if absolutely necessary.

It really depends on the VPN. They work by essentially setting themselves up between you and the server your connecting too. This is great as it sets up a permanent HTTPS connection. On the other hand, they're also the ones actually routing that data. Of course security certificates should render this sort of attack impossible, until you realize nobody ever verifies them, and the ISP (or in this case VPN) can easily spoof them. From there they have 100% sight on all of your internet activities just like they were your ISP.
