How INVASIVE is the corruption/crimson ACTUALLY? I'm definitely ready to fight the WoF and I'm pretty eager to progress in this game. I've defeated all the other bosses in pre hard and now I'm at the point where it feels like a chore to continue to dig hellevators. I've seen this conversation in multiple threads and the community seems pretty divided about whether or not it's worth doing. I'm pretty attached to my world at this point. I've built some sweet villages but the world spawned with so much pre existing corruption that it seems futile to stop it to some degree. Plus you get much better gear to deal with it later in the game.

Unfortunately, the Clentaminator is a viable option for quickly disposing of it.
By the time you have to reenter the Jungle to fight Plantera, you'll have the means of clearing an infected Jungle to get Plantera's Bulbs to grow and build an arena where she and Golem will not enrage.
You can also use Sunflowers around towns to reduce the grass tiles that can be converted, and weaken the evil's influence to the point where NPCs may be able to stay there even if the evil generated in Hardmode directly hits it.
If digging containment shafts is ever required, Hardmode pickaxes are lightning fast by now.

@wooden flax yeah, that's a pretty strong argument against pre hard containment.

I'd personally only do it if I'm going for full world purification in the post-game and don't want to deal with it shifting around once I get to Hardmode.
Gravedigger's Shovel, Mining Armor, Ancient Chisel and Bone Pickaxe help, but it still takes around 5-20 minutes to do.
