Start of the game is basically cave exploration, so just go down there and loot some chests and mine some ores. Also try to find crystal hearts to increase your max hp. First crafting station is just made of wood, then furnace is torches+stone, and anvil is lead/iron bars.

Movement accessories are very useful at the start. And same with any defense boosting modifiers on your accessories
