The answer is..
Unimportant Drumroll
The answer is yes.
Bosses like king slime and the wall of flesh can be spawned from what I know. 4 Rubies can be obtained under the right ocean and gold can be obtained in most places. A demon altar can be found underground to the left of the main spawn area, and that's where you can make the slime crown.

I'm going do king slime first so I can get the slime mount. Its going to be hard to do anything considering no life crystals can be obtained in tutorial. To build a hellevator from spawn, I might need a breathing reed and bombs. I think that the breathing reed is found from the jungle. Man, this is going to be something.
