In the battle the hero was mortally wounded and to prevent the sword from ending up in the wrong hands, and to ensure the one who gets it is worthy, the gods split the sword into many different blades across the world to be guarded by strong beings, the last two guarded by the moon lord himself. The hero gathers the swords, crafting even powerful swords along the way and getting closer to Zenith. Then the hero slays the moon lord, avenging their predecessor and proving themselves worthy and finally obtaining Zenith, the true sword of the hero.

The first fracture is able to allow copies of the player to attack without actually touching the enemy. Powered off their spirit. When the Hero was defeated, so was his will, thus, making the first fracture shatter, making it useless. When you get a broken hero sword and make the Terra blade, you're still not full at spirit and can't use it the same in the same power as the fallen hero. After you slay moonlord, you spirit world be strong enough to use it. Carrying the hope of others (like the NPC's if you didn't cheese it you nurse cheater, or didn't let any of them die in the fight) you're much stronger than the last hero, and can do much more. That's why the Zenith ends up being stronger than the final fracture

It is a 1.4 seed that makes the game harder by changing a few things. For one, certain surface level water pools are replaced with lava, bombs dropped from jars will go off and not just be on the ground. And red potions give 3 buffs for 30 minutes
