anyone have a good block to make a stucco wall? i feel like regular stucco (left pic) looks more like carpet. the best ive found is marble blocks (right pic) but its too messy around the edges and still doesnt look too much like stucco (still better than the actual stucco block.)

This is very good, especially for a newer builder! If you're looking for specific improvements to the build, maybe add a fence or other background details outside, or vary the height of the terrain, to avoid it looking too flat. As for general tips, learning to use paint is always a huge step forward.

For the pylon, my only real tip is that echo coating the pylon does not make the crystal invisible, which can be cool

this is an effect unique to the blocks they used. Stone Slab and Special Stone Slab don't merge with one another, so you can place them adjacent to one another to create the border effect. Regular Stone Slab, however, does merge (with other blocks), so they've connected that to the ebonstone brick at the top.

As long as you don't place background walls anywhere that stuff is supposed to spawn, or place blocks that impair mob movement, you should be fine. Also note that some enemy spawns are dependent on the block they are standing on.

I found this neat build on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraria/comments/h11owi/giant_mushrooms/), and the guy in the comments said that he used "yellow, white and gray painted living wood, illuminated painted cobalt, mushroom, illuminated mushroom walls and actuators". From looking at the image (here's also an alternate one they posted: https://i.imgur.com/UJfW1v8.jpeg), I'm assuming that the stems of the mushrooms are made with yellow living wood, the outlines of the caps with white living wood, the bottom 'curves' of the bowls with the gray living wood, the underside of the caps with the mushroom walls and then obviously the cobalt for the spots. One thing I'm unsure about is what the actual 'blue' block is that makes up the majority of the cap? Is anyone able to double check that what I've said above looks correct, and also help confirm what the blue block is? Thanks!

Mushroom blocks emit a blue light so when they are not touched by sunlight they glow dark blue aka towards the center

The outside is lit up by daylight so it keeps the natural bone-white mushroom colour
