Ok. I need someone to tell me if I'm insane or something. I don't know what it is or why its always been like this, but terraria has always run like absolute garbage for me regardless of what hardware I'm playing on. I've tried every little trick, tweak, even with performance mods my game is still running at sub 30 very frequently. Sitting in my base has me dropping to the low 40s. Again this is REGARDLESS of hardware. I literally have zero idea what else I can do. Reinstalling doesn't work, it's not operating system dependent, it's not world or player dependent, I literally have no idea. If anyone has ANY ideas on what's causing this issue, please let me know. I've had the game since 2015 and it has ALWAYS been like this.

If I were to make 2 suggestions besides frameskip, they'd be:
Lighting mode set to retro/trippy
Disable/lower heat distortion, storm effects, wave quality & foreground sunlight effects
Those tend to be the most intensive settings that impact performance.
If you're playing modded, also check the mod configs for visual effects you can disable if needed.

Maybe also try borderless windowed mode instead of fullscreen if you haven't
