#Extra Player

The game always seems to think that there’s an extra player, even when I’m playing by myself with a controller. This probably has something to do with playing on a Steam Deck. My guess is that it sees the Steam Deck (as a controller) and my wireless controller and assumes both are in use when really I’m only using my wireless controller.

To reproduce, connecting multiple controllers while only ever touching one might work the same way. But to more closely match my situation, use a Steam Deck, connect a wireless controller, and play a level.

This is in v24.6.1, I think- whatever the latest alpha version is at the time of writing. I’ve experienced this in older alpha versions (dating back to when the editor alpha channel existed) but I never experienced it on the stable branch.

yeah unfortunately i'm unsure how to fix that

#

cause technically there's two players in that case...

I’m not a game developer really but maybe there could be that same functionality but without the screen (happens in the background), or maybe it could be part of the pause menu in a level, or, something- sorry lol

Yeah was a thing for at least a few months now

#

Quite annoying when you die and have to watch the second player slowly die while standing still before you're able to respawn

@scenic minnow sorry I tested a bit later than I said I would- unfortunately the fix doesn’t seem to er, fix things

#

I did just remember though that there’s option in game properties to disable Steam Input though so I’ll try that in a moment

Okay! One last thing I tested: in Steam Input controller settings I set the Steam Deck to Mouse Only (with my controller being set to Gamepad) and it fixed the extra player issue! However, any UI that was in the middle of the screen was always highlighted, probably because the “mouse” controlled by the Steam Deck defaults to that position
