Hi!

So i started my laptop today and it was just hanging on [OK] Reached Target Basic System or similar, then after a while it would spit out the following (in image) i was messging with possibly doing the manual kernel configuration using modprobed-db but that wouldnt build so i left it for now but i guess maybe i somehow fucked that up? Im very unsure,,,,

@noble charm vindication? :P

#

I think regenerating your iniitramfs would be good to try

#

From the iso, mount your root, chroot in, mount your efi partition and emerge --config <your kernel>. That should re-run dracut and hopefully unbork this

analog oriole
#

Will try

analog oriole
#

It spit out a lot of text and says succeeded so

deft bronze
#

If it didn't error it probably worked. Basically dracut (your initramfs) got sad, so we've made a new initramfs with that command

#

You should at least get different errors now, if it doesn't just work

Getting the same error is curious

analog oriole
#

Yeah it seems to be the same thing

#

At least looks the same

deft bronze
#

You say you did some custom kernel messing, could you describe what you did?

Also after the dracut emergency shell it drops to this, its goong back and forth between the two start jobs

#

Omg its me hiiiii

deft bronze
#

Hmm well we did the regenerating initramfs thing

#

Did you 100% mount your boot partition when chrooted?

#

can you share a lsblk -f and cat /etc/fstab from the chroot?

#

The "start job is running" is systemd not being able to mount your fat32 partition via the fstab, pretty sure

analog oriole
#

I did the regenerate initramfs again but there was a "not found" somewhere in there, how do i scroll back up 😭

deft bronze
# analog oriole

lsblk with the -f flag as well, it's the UUID of your fat32 partition I'm concerned with

analog oriole
deft bronze
#

Lol, I was expecting UUIDs there

#

blkid? :D

analog oriole
#

This looks maybe important

#

Theres all this too fkdkfk

deft bronze
#

That looks like a consequence of your messing around with the kernel, I think

#

what does eselect kernel list show?

analog oriole
deft bronze
#

Quite a bamboozler 🤔

deft bronze
deft bronze
analog oriole
#

This is whats there

deft bronze
#

Yeah there should be a kernel directory in there

#

Not quite sure how to solve that on dist tbh. Should be automatic

#

maybe try reinstalling the kernel entirely, not just --config emerge gentoo-kernel-bin ?

analog oriole
#

Yeah thats what im trying now

deft bronze
#

If this was a custom kernel you could cd /usr/src/<custom kernel dir> and make modules install to install the modules. I am unsure if that would work with the dist kernel though

analog oriole
#

There are a lot more folders there now

#

Including kernel

deft bronze
#

That's encouraging!

analog oriole
#

It booted!!!! :D

#

Thank u sm,,,,

deft bronze
#

Ooooh yaayyyayy

#

🪄

analog oriole
#

I love gentoo :3

#

i will stand by i've never had it crash/fail on me for anything that wasnt directly my fauklt 😭

#

i am happy to support them financially monthly :3

#

again thank u thank u
