#issues having fingerprint reader (04f3:0c4b) recognize fingerprints after enrollment

Fingerprint readers are a massive crapshoot. There are very few actual drivers out there that work on linux - the majority of drivers you have been painstakingly reverse-engineered and hacked together
Not do diminish those people's work, but yeah. 😄
The issue is that (for obvious reasons) the manufacturers want to keep quite a closed book on how their security devices work.
Something else to consider is that fingerprint readers are also pretty insecure, even on winderps with official drivers
I had a thinkpad where it worked perfectly. I have had another thinkpad where it was never going to work. I had one last thinkpad, where I found this hideous python hack that got it working, about 70% of the time. You know it's good when snakescript gets involved
on one hand, i’ll jump at any opportunity to write some python and tinker with stuff
on the other, the fact that i have to do that probably means it’s not worth it tbh
just tried on a live iso of mint 22.1 i have lying around in case of emergencies, and it ended up not working there either so i can only assume it’s a hardware problem
well
an fprintd problem
Enrolling is further than I've got on 3/4 machines
