#How to install
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Use somekind of live environment, (id use mint), get something to drink and read the handbook
thats the best i can give you
if you have any issues while installing you can ask around here :)
this way
whats the configuring and how do i do it correctly
i just want it running
I want to play minecraft and do some video editing in resolve
also record with obs
is that like gnome?
so gnome
uhhhh
sure
performance
A bit of security
moderate compiling
uhhh
pipewire allows for seperate audio sinks right?
uhhh
None ig?
and pipewire too
@half zodiac which one did i need again>?
systemd
i do not
i have a rx7600 and a 1650Ti Super
i wanted the Super to be used a sort capture card
and then have the rx do the main display and stuff
does that complicate stuff?
just record videos
dedicate that for encoding and decoding
okok
why
oh
hmmm
ok so then what would be the use of the Super gpu
You should try both recording methods
The RX7800 is for shaders in Minecraft
Also reminder your cpu clock is set similar to this
https://youtu.be/z0jQZxH7NgM?si=c9Wh7XtAi9ji0fdp
Liquid nitrogen to cool the Pentium 4
by Tom's Hardware
That is why I said to not overclock to such high amounts
What cooler are you using?
It must be better than a wraith
whats a wraith
but a corsair aio
idk which one
Stock cooler
You probably need liquid cooling at 5.7 Ghz
It's supposed to be 3.8Ghz stock
ngl i havent realised its that high
i dont see any issues with it so im leaving it like so
why
ðŸ˜
Set to 4.6Ghz
Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC would be required right?
But a stock doesn't cut it
They said it got "tosty"
Thermals can definitely throttle
Better performance is on lower speeds in their setup
I get 70C at my compiles with my AMD 5600x
that was for my gpu
How accurate is this?
https://www.quora.com/What-temperature-should-Ryzen-5-5600X-be-at
GPU is irrelevant for compiling
i have never compiled
i didnt change anythign yesterday
Shouldn't matter with their S tier CPU
i only did the env vars
You are making me curious about my spare pc and if I can offload to my GTX 645 instead of my i5 2500
I may make a thread in a bit
That's the installer I used
It's good
Unless you are dualbooting, you don't really need grub
They plan to dual boot, but systemd dual boots fine for me
They want to eventually dual boot windows
Note dracut is worse than urgd
how can i keep my home
dir
i live in the eu
its a pc
but cant i encrypt it later?
ok ill do that this weekend
ur dad doesnt allow u to install gentoo?
Eh. just use a KDE live .ISO image and follow a tutorial on youtube. I really recommend linuxtechgeek 2024 guide. It explains alot and walks you through it then the handbook, and its also very beginner friendly
my mom was like that lmao ðŸ˜
Wtf?
Your dad is setting you up horribly
They wanted you to upgrade your gpu and keep your old, but not use gentoo?
They do know windows runs far worse right?
This isn't a home computer for multiple people is it?
Yes
You should have said this was not a pc
Saying this computer is not your own is like the first thing to do, no wonder your dad thought you were irresponsible.
The only thing I can recomend is having two OS
See if you can do both gentoo and windows to ensure at least windows will be there if you mess up gentoo
Windows 10, not 11
Well I don't recommend that as it isn't an OS everyone is familiar with and KDE can be buggy on Nvidia since they have both AMD and Nvidia.
If you don't care about HDR go cinnamon if you can install gentoo along side windows
If HDR is more important than desktop icons and a traditional feel, gnome offers best
