im prob dumb but in i3 my audio input and output devices dont show up. same with all wm but for some reason, in kde or xfce do infact show them. i would love to use i3 but the audio is a big deal breaker.

#

it also effects all wm i have tried

k

vast jackal
#

so how you starting pipewiire?

#

what is your init system - openrc or systemd?

pine abyss
#

openrc

vast jackal
#

alright so are you using gentoo-pipeiwre-launcher?

pine abyss
#

i think so

#

but i use kde

#

rn

#

so it does it automaticly

vast jackal
#

Could you paste up your i3 config for me?

pine abyss
#

i have done very little to i3

vast jackal
#

oh yea that's all cool just need to see what's in it

#

because you need to add something for audio to work

pine abyss
#

k im finding it rn

#

also

#

i have tried some other wm

#

they also had the same issues

vast jackal
#

yea that makes sense - with a wm you need to have some way of starting the audio server manually if on openrc (which currently doesn't have user services in sys-apps/openrc)

vast jackal

no worries but you just need to add to the top of your i3 config this:

pine abyss
#

but there it is

#

ok

#

i can add something to it rq

vast jackal
#
exec gentoo-pipewire-launcher &
#

log out and log back in
