#(Plasma 6) "Program Has Requested Remote Control Access" (Controller+Steam Issue)

When using a controller with Steam under Plasma 6, I sometimes get a similar message to another issue where it instead says "a program" rather than an specific program name; but how it usually gets triggered is that either it's because I use the Steam gamepad shortcut for taking screenshots ("Guide" button + right bumper or trigger) or if I launch specific games like Shadows of Doubt.

This issue is rather odd to me and it didn't use to happen a couple Plasma 6 versions ago, but I frequently find it an annoyance that's finally made me ask about this.
Is there a way to turn this off or something? Is it a bug...?
(Note: Clicking "Share"/ Allow just causes everything to lockup for a few moments before making the window go away, and doesn't actually prevent the issue from reoccuring.)

(Plasma 6) "Program Has Requested Remote Control Access" (Controller+Steam Issue)

it's not a bug, plasma 6 has gained support for libei (emulated input in wayland), this support goes through the desktop portal which promts for authorization

#

in plasma 5 for example, the steam controller does not work in wayland due to the lack of libei support, the steam overlay has a workaround for that in the form of x11-libs/extest but this is no longer required in plasma 6

I see
Then why does it prompt me for it in the way that it does on every input instead of just being a one time accept, though? 🤔

there should be a "remember" checkbox or something

meager coyote
#

There wasn't ☠️

half falcon
#

if that is checked and it still keeps prompting you then that is a bug

half falcon
#

is this a stable or unstable system? could be this bug is already fixed

meager coyote

Looks like this, for me

What about the xdg portal packages?

#

Cause I am on a full unstable system and I do have a remember checkbox

meager coyote
# half falcon What about the xdg portal packages?
emerge --pretend xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-gtk xdg-desktop-portal-kde

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 3.53 s (backtrack: 0/20).

[ebuild R ] sys-apps/xdg-desktop-portal-1.18.4
[ebuild R ] sys-apps/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk-1.14.1
[ebuild R ] kde-plasma/xdg-desktop-portal-kde-6.1.4

These 3 are the only ones installed

hmm

#

then I don't know why you don't have this checkbox 😦

@half falcon So, remember when I said I had the issue, using the configuration that was needed for unmasking and setting plasma packages as ~amd64?
I got rid of those (intended) temporary 6.0.0 measures, so my system downgraded to "stable" Plasma 6 across the board (because Plasma 5 was deprecated) and I still don't have a check box somehow

#

I'm starting to wonder if it's tied to KWallet directly somehow, because I don't use Kwallet and actually have a script that kills Kwallet in favor of a different password manager (KeePassXC); if so, then this would kind of seem like an oversight for not considering other Secret Service Integrations

@bleak dome Not sure if you know someone on the KDE team who knows how this works more intimately who can shed light on the why? (sorry to bother you, btw)
(This help post got buried by Discord because it's been over a week old, so it's not really visible if I don't either bring it up like this or rewrite the whole thing as a new one)
