Have you seen some of the songs I've shared? Well-known is not a requirement! Always good to help people discover new music

i'm just going through a hell of an emo phase lifestyle 🙄

"Autumn in New York" is among most famous jazz standards ever. It was composed by Vernon Duke in 1934 for the Broadway musical “Thumbs Up!”, which opened on December 27, 1934, performed by J. Title: Jesus Of Suburbia
Album: American Idiot
Lyrics:
[Part 1]
I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed ...

@granite quarry I bought a book of old children's songs and rhimes. Some have music notes and regional variations in the lyrics
For some reason, most are very aggressive haha
Hahahahaha kids' stories and songs can be hilariously horrifying.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Millennials/s/6TuTyfTbs7 what’s your Coachella age? ||45

62 😭

66 lol
46 🫠
My bf and I are both about 52. He says "counter argument: the Coachella line-up is shit this year"
He also made me write that ^
your bf is so real
🥲 55 (and I felt really confident by the first three I’d know more.. boy was that a miscalculation )
some of these sound AI-generated
same vibes
I think K-Smog and Batboy were on that lineup
lol i'm 60
51 smh
Oh no 63 😂
Guess I'm the oldest here 😎
https://open.spotify.com/track/5ebr2Bcc8UcoTpVRbXpFHJ?si=xIBic_xyTdy_LNy9VnN4bA had to send the demo for this song bc spotify is dumb and deleted the original
will send a lot of random songs here often :)
know or actively listen to? Because just going by "heard of" I'm at 63 and that is depressing enough 😂
I went by heard of
Actively listen to would have me at 70 lol
yeah, I read the title, so I guess that rules out the listening requirement, but half of the names sound like something i might have come across in a different context where it wasn't musicians, so it's hard to actually recongise any of them as bands and typing this out makes me realise that's the whole thing of this post nvm
tell him: Missy Elliot, the Go-Go's, Three 6 Mafia, Kraftwerk, Circle Jerks, and whatever Yo Gabba Gabba is going to do will be amazing
Honestly, I bet Yo Gabba has one of the best sets of the weekend lolol
I will be watching the live stream for sure
i'm 34
Good luck to all who celebrate Whamaggedon
circle jerks at coachella is wild
Let’s see those Spotify Wrapped!
“We Listen and We Don’t Judge” 😌
lmao accurate
in summary: I am not okay, and it shows 😂
nice! which artist?
Rainbow Kitten Surprise 😂
guess that name is a surprise to me :P not familiar with the band
I did get my 3rd year in a row "top 100 listeners" for Cécile Corbel, which was nice :)
did not expect this one though
@iron goblet we had similar Mays LOL
I'll be brave and share. No doubt I have wide music tastes 😛
I really don't understand how Zach Bryan is #2. Like I listen to him but I would have thought others would have been way way higher
(my personal intervention)
Yeah some of mine are a bit wonky too
yeah I definitely get that too. I knew Julien Baker would be most played artist this year, but I was not sure about the rest of the top 5, and what order they would be in
I really do wish that apple had the kind of overview where it showed top 5 in one image, rather than needing to share a bunch of images with the set
Edit: turns out there is a way, located in the whole section to press the "share summary" button, which does give an overview which is not the same as the last page of the video
Mine just called me out for randomly listening to more rap and hip hop during the summer than at all in the rest of the year
👀 which Epic saga is your fave tho
if I had to pick a favourite child... probably the Ocean saga because of how much I was focusing on the leifmotifs when I first listened it
Last frame in case you’re not familiar with the top songs (as weirdly, none of them are from my top artists?)
My husband was in the top 1% of Spotify minutes with just over 100,000… do you ever turn your music off? 😅
haha yeah, I do actually. Last year was absurd, I had somehow managed to hit 351k minutes by the end of the year. But I haven't had a month this year where I had less than 20k minutes of play time, so it quickly adds up. I often have music on to ground if I get flashbacks again. Plus I'm almost always at home, which also adds up to the count
😭 Lena
My husband works from home and has the sort of ADHD where he listens to music in one ear bud, layers his noise cancelling headphones with a meeting in them over top, and one of his 3 monitors is usually streaming a muted movie with subtitles 😂
It gives me anxiety to even look at his set up
True Rent fans didn’t need to look it up 😂
Smh I get the numbers mixed up 🤣 it’s “dah dah dah dadadadah da six hundred minutes” in my head
yeah like I said: I'm not okay, and I'm aware of it 😂
We gotchu
Do you have music on while you sleep as well?
it's okay, I can joke about it because my music stats have always been intense
I feel like mine would have been wild before I had kids but now I really like moments of no sound 😂
I see a lot of your music is mellower than anything I listen to, so that's why I ask if you have it on to sleep too
That’s a good point, mine is very “I’m actively screaming along”
I think 80% of what I listened to in November was literally just my chemical romance
on the bad nights, when I know I'll be likely be dealing with nightmares, though I oftne enough also skip a night if I realise it will less awful for my body rhythm to deal with that than with the aftereffects of flashbacks
(do not recommend)
makes sense. I think my "most listened" day was the day I woke up to having found that I, in my sleep, turned on spotify and started listening to music
I think I literally woke up to kelly clarkson too 🤣 whAT?
I go on benders. I listened to the same Rise Against album straight through, 9 times. In one day.
Then didn’t listen to it again for a year but there it is on my wrapped 😂
some years that definitely shows up in mine too, Foo Fighters with most played song and MCR second, in 2018 I think. Other years I just listen enough that those will still show up, but not as high
mostly in the top 5 are more mellow, as all of those bar Malin Lewis are in a playlist together that I listen to a lot. But things like Saint Chaos, Neoni, Hot Milk, Raye, Taylor Acorn, Aurora, or any of those others are a lot less suitable for that 😂
I’m usually pretty pop heavy with a smattering of punk and alt rock. Music fuels my need to sing at the top of my lungs, and to rage against the system 😂
does youtube do a wrapped? i refuse to support spotify
it does, I saw one earlier for youtube music
my kids have probably destroyed it, i bet its chaos. im gonna go find it
aw man it says check back later. TBD
Check back later by TBD is one of my favorites
it's all 5 of my spots!
the clash and bowie are both awesome
Ah yes, of course
It’s really sad that all of Jason Mraz, Kate Nash, the Hoosiers, and Ra Ra Riot just barely missed the cut.
any of the british folk in here have Pete and Bas in their top 5?
We're out of sad queer hours. We're into rage queer hours
Musical soundtracks my beloved ❤️
yes! also "wolf" is by far the song I listen to most of First Aid Kit; I've not listened to more of their recent work though
I’m assuming you listen to Epic given the Jorge Rivera-Herrans?
Same, during the summer, although mine was… a little different
There's an All Star Owl City remix?!
yeahhh! it's fun!
yup, which is pretty obvious 😅
Yup, I also listen to Epic(which you probably already thought)
in my experience it's a name mostly known by those that also listen to Epic 😆
So I'll ask what Ana asked me earlier: what's your favourite saga?
I haven’t actually listened to all the sagas. I like the Troy Saga though
My top song for them this year is « Emmylou ». Same, I haven’t listened to recent stuff. I discovered them through Lion’s Roar, which was the music for the video game The Long Dark
Perfect for the 2 minutes before Marvel Rivals releases.
An interesting mix of metal/metalcore and pop lol
spiritbox 🔥
Yes 🔥🔥I’m going to go see them live in April on their new tour
getting a feeling that the Ithaca saga might become my new fav (best christmas present!), just for the instrumentations. I've been listening to the 30 second trailer for the past hour and a half, I kid you not. Can't wait to hear the rest in a few weeks 🤞
Same!!! I’ve been obsessed with The Challenge since he leaked snippets a while ago! And I can’t wait for the official audio
Went to a concert yesterday, and actually could see the stage haha
bjork and kate bush = exquisite taste
Yes they’re great
Is this Nightwish?
No, Within Temptation^^
ahh nice!
Went to a concert of them once, but we were so far away i didnt see anything. So this time we tried to get close
Great, now all I need is stuck in my head
Well that's a good one to have😉
Better than Tiny Tim that’s for sure
Music nerds, what's your favorite phrase to help you remember a polyrhythm?
Here are two:
- 3 against 4 ||shit my girlfriends pregnant||
- 4 against 5 ||my girlfriend's pregnant, don't know what do to||
Talking with my sister about these today and I figured you all would have some good other ones.
@timid sorrel @scenic pecan @flint grove
Y'all have phrases to remember polyrhythms? 🤣😭
WHAT
I know logically there is stuff for this but I am bad with the vocalizing syllables for a rhythm thing
E.g. in lessons I've had teachers have me vocalize stuff for 5- or 7-lets
Forgot what a polyrhythm is but a quick video reminded me from back in my teens and yeah I’ll get banned
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbHfgXJKn1Y
if I ever take voice lessons again I’m doing this one first (my vocal cords are gonna hate me)

I’m 25, but I have a vast taste in music. Found it via other 90’s emo genre bands like my fave, Mineral.
You are wise beyond your years
Found the album at a local record shop a while back, took me a minute to realize that I had actually found a copy 🤣
i was a musician in a previous life, and i was fortunate enough to play with a bunch of 90s/early 00s emo/alternative bands
my favourite type of band :O
Nice! I’ve been looking for a good copy of Mineral’s album “The power of failing” but no luck yet and all the copies on eBay and Discogs are about as expensive as a subscription to a forbidden to talk about website in Music
i got to play a few piebald and jimmy eat world shows on their tour, i got to play with story of the year, all american rejects, the used
I got to play in guitar hero once as a kid 🤣
Unfortunately I didn’t get the musical talent gene
or, if you're good at yelling you dont even have to play anything
I can sing and I can write songs that’s it. I can play basic guitar chords and power chords but that’s it
perfect
My great grandfather should’ve given me some of his musical talent. He could play
Fiddle
Guitar
Bass
Drums
Mandolin
Banjo
Piano
Sing
Write songs
been obsessed with this artist for a while :3

totally recommend for anyone into breakcore/hyperpop
@iron goblet @verbal anvil as you're probably well aware of, Epic's Ithaca saga launched at midnight Christmas day, which is local timezones. I just listened to it, and have a lot of thoughts and feelings which I'll summarise as "oh wow!"
Quite different from what I had expected, but it's a ride, and I like it. Obsessed with the leitmotifs already, and will probably listen another dozen times once I've slept 😅

Vincent Damon Furnier, better known under his nickname Alice Cooper, was the first "shock rocker" in music history. With the song "I'm Eighteen", the breakthrough hit for Alice Cooper, and the following album "Love It Till Death" the long and successful collaboration with producer Bob Ezrin started in 1971. Famous for his controversial horror-in...
My first favorite band
I've been listening to "Would You Fall In Love With Me Again" about 3000x times since release and it's going to absolutely ruin my Spotify Wrapped next year 😩 but I have sobbed every time. Definitely the best Saga of all of them 😩
👀 and it's only got me more pumped for the Christopher Nolan version of The Odyssey too 👀
it's so good! the entire saga is soooo good!! and yeah I totally understand with ruining your wrapped 😂
I've also been listening to "the challenge" a lot
The challenge is so good too 😭 this was the reunion i wanted and it's perfect ❤️
yes!
I've even been attempting to make some edits, and it's literal years since I last attempted that for anything 😂 I'm not happy with them yet
Let's play a music game: Who's your most slept-on band or artist?
For me - Tv On The Radio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6qCnRe3KDw
And 90s edition-- Collective Soul (you probably know multiple of their songs but they have such a range that I don't think people realize they're the same group_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m0bI82Rz_k
Nina Nesbitt - I’ve been following her since she was a teen and I have always adored her music and how it’s evolved as she’s grown up 👌
probably Alien Sex Fiend or Sugarplastic
i came across Sugarplastic a few years ago and was honestly baffled at how underappreciated they are, their music is so beautiful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eLmNBIi2k8
https://www.facebook.com/thesugarplastic
I love that bird and I want it to see
I climbed up into the sycamore tree
I said 'what's burning? It's time we started learning, learning oh Leo Leo
And oh Leo Leo loves oh Leo Leo
And oh Leo Leo loves oh Leo Leo
And oh Leo Leo says ???
???
Singing oh Leo Leo
Oh my, oh my, it's a forgerers pride
I rip...
Most of my artists I would have answered this with have now gone mainstream 😅 Ummm but I’ll say Billie Marten. She has such an ethereal, sleepy voice that just calms me right down.
Both very solid choices
Maybe The Hoosiers? I absolutely love some of their earlier albums, but they never seemed to make it in the US
Music video by The Hoosiers performing Worried About Ray. YouTube view counts pre-VEVO: 6,660 (C) 2007 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT (UK) Limited
Ooh and Ludo! They had one song that did well commercially, but they have so many good - and really funny - songs
70’s: Alice Cooper (The band, not Alice)
80’s: Idk not an 80’s music fan
90’s: Mineral
00’s: Fuel (well, technically 90’s too but released more albums in the 00’s)
I think they can still be mainstream and underrated; just not the popularity you think they deserve
Shimmer by Fuel is my favorite song
Speaking of fuel

What does most slept on mean?
Underrated
Hemlocke Springs!!! Her EP "going...going...GONE" is very good, and she writes and produces her music primarily on her own. She recently has been opening for Doja Cat since 2024, and will likely drop her debut album this year
I'm pretty sure she's going to blow up at some point!
I've been following her since she released girlfriend in 2023
@exotic panther Hemlocke Springs is apparently one of Chappell Roan's favourite singers, so you could call her "Your favourite artist's favourite artist's favourite artist"
I just listened to one of my favorite artist's Tiny Desk set... for like five minutes before I had to turn it off so it wouldn't ruin my 90s perception of them. No so good 😅
Third Eye Blind?
Yes lol
If it's any consolation, I saw them live in like 2012 or so and they were really good. Maybe just getting old
Lol just watched 30 seconds of that. That was rough
This was in 2000 when I first saw them- a write up of the festival peformance I saw
It was 25 years ago but I don't remember it being that bad
I don't think that was the right song a ALL to start off with. Like edgy yeah - but I don't think gen-z would like it and he didn't sing it wel.

You are of a different generation than me, whether literally or metaphorically 😅 I know a few songs from most of them but wouldn’t call myself a fan. I do enjoy most of what I know! And my kid’s middle name is Bowie so uh. We’re big fans.
We chose it because we feel like his name represents his openness about who he was, his confidence, and his ability to adapt to pretty much anything.
The byrds were a childhood favorite of mine
i like quite a few of those. donovan is one of my wife's favorites, sonic youth and the clash are probably my fave 2 on the list
and love bowie, especially as ziggy stardust
Childhood favorite bands/musicians that had a major impact on me and future favorites:
- Alice Cooper (1964-1974)
- Little Feat (1969-1979)
- Deep Purple (1968-1976)
- Bruce Springsteen (1972-1980)
- Styx (1972-1981)
- The Mothers of Invention (1964-1969)
- Billy Joel (1971-1983)
- Elton John (1969-1975)
- James Gang (1969-1971)
- Blue Cheer (1968-1969)
Ella Fitzgerald show I worked last week was amazing
Just worked a Rat Pack gig yesterday. They were as incredible as you'd expect, but the riders were ridiculous
From a show I did a couple of weeks ago
So jealous you got to see Plvis Eresley live 😱
Wow Charlie, **you're ** the celebrity
Not even Fat Elvis 👎
He's really gotten it together for a man his age
Dudes looking good for 90
About to work this Beethoven show, it's gonna be crazy

The title is misleading, Red Hot Chili Peppers, BSB, Shania Twain, etc are all there. Def not one hit wonders lol

Why I don't know. It's a pretty terrible song. And that elder millennial dude hair is very present in this
wtf m'am

We made this song so much of our identity it forever changed how we dressed - Abercrombie wasn't not super present until this. But damn did we zero in on that.
Also this playlist - it's like I'm back in Hollister trying to squint in the dim light to see what i'm buying- choking on the fumes of dressed up Axe bodyspray

I think that we can talk about this without breaking #rules 5 (no politics). Every chancellor in Germany gets to choose 3 walkoff songs played by the military band, and the latest one chose Respect (by Otis Redding, famously sung by Aretha Franklin).

LYRICS
I don't want to see you waiting
I've already gone too far away
I still can't keep the day from ending
No more messed up reasons for me to stay
Well this is not for real, ...
I used to love this song back in the day. Anyone else old enough to remember the TV commercials for Buzz Ballads?
'This Year' taken from The Mountain Goat's 2005 album, 'The Sunset Tree'.
Video directed & upgraded by Andy Bruntel
Lyrics:
I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
Headed north on Mills Avenue
And listened to the engine roar
My broken house behind me and good things ahead
A girl named Cathy wants a little of my time
Si...
absolutely love this song. The Mountain Goats have gotten me through so much 🙏
lol no joke, i opened for these guys in 2002 or 2003 in cleveland
our rock radio station at the time was 92.3, and they put on 'low dough shows' for 92 cents. i got to play with lots of one hit wonders
Wow, I should’ve been in a band instead of being In preschool then 🤣 that’s badass
man i get it, childhood has a way of ruining things
i always wished i had bought a home in the late 80s instead of starting 2nd grade
Song Name - All I Need
Artist - Radiohead
Album - In Rainbows
I don't know why this song has such a chokehold on me atm
I like how spotify outs me as having listened to it 89 times recently 😅
Only if you are discord friends, and it was 29 times 😉
I can't stand RadioHead but glad you like it
Honestly discord outing listening habits on Spotify recently is rude 🤣
Two days ago I paused my queue (what a weird word) and took a nap. At some point I wake up, hours later, and check my phone and it's playing some weird ass gospel music. So this years Wrapped might get interesting. I was being so cool this year too.
Yeah but it’s radiohead, that’s normal. In fact you should listen to it more
I accidentally left it on while sleeping once and Kelly Clarkson woke me up
Listening to Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl atm
That and Tiny Dancer was sang to me a lot by my dad growing up - even now
Aww
Funny enough listening to 8675309
That definitely got sang to me a lot too lol
mostly by other people
Makes sense
I read an article once about people that had that number when the song came out. Basically it felt like pre robo calls. Everyone asking if Jenny was there 😂
They really missed not playing that song during the movie

Well, I listen to a bunch of sub-genres: Thrash, Nu, Metalcore, Death, Technical Death, Power, Groove. I even listen to a lot of hard rock. If you'd like my spotify DM me

Perfect 😄 — here’s a full parody of “Brick House” rewritten as “Brick Wall” that keeps the same rhythm, rhyme scheme, and singable flow so you could actually perform it karaoke-style about a genealogy research block.
🎵 “Brick Wall” (Genealogy Parody of Brick House)
[Intro]
Ow, it’s a brick… wall!
(It’s mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out!)
Ow, that brick… wall!
(The records are tough, ain’t gettin’ enough, no doubt!)
[Verse 1]
Genealogy strong, my patience long,
Been searchin’ all night and day.
My ancestor hides, no matter what I try,
Those papers just slip away.
[Chorus]
That’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Blockin’ my family tree all night!
That’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Researchin’ but it’s outta sight!
[Verse 2]
Birth record’s gone, no census drawn,
The courthouse burned down long ago.
I’m diggin’ online, but I still can’t find,
Where Grandma’s people used to go.
[Chorus]
That’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Standin’ between me and the light!
That’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Oh this mystery’s watertight!
[Bridge / Breakdown]
Shake it down, shake it down now…
DNA, DNA won’t save me!
Shake it down, shake it down now…
FamilySearch just can’t persuade me!
[Verse 3]
Well-put together, history’s clever,
But this line won’t give me no clue.
I’ll chase it forever, ‘cause I’m so endeavor’d,
Til I break on through!
[Final Chorus / Outro]
She’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Standin’ and refusin’ to fall!
That’s a brick… wall!
Mighty, mighty,
Gonna climb it once and for all!
Ow, it’s a brick… wall!
(Ah genealogy strong!)
That brick… wall!
(Ah mystery tall!)

Oke I'm going through some lists of "songs that make you cry" but I don't agree with most, so i wanna know: What songs make y'all cry? (or think are cryable)
Just cried this morning to landslide by Fleetwood Mac. I saw a mom on tiktok say that her son picked it for their mother son dance at his wedding and so naturally I had to pretend that I was in that situation so I cried
I guess it was more the situation than the song but the song definitely did not help at all
I’ve also cried to goodbye stranger by Supertramp but once again it’s more situational and the memories it invokes than the song itself.
To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra is sad, Funeral by Phoebe Bridgers
i have a newfound love for jazz music, and for Laufey 💙
Laufey is amazing
i've been missing out, never used to be into her music. i liked her as a person, but now im like. damn her music is absolutely beautiful
yep. Lover Girl is great

When did the AI using real art to generate images controversy really start to gather steam?
A: this is not on topic for music, the models doing this for music are a different company mainly
B: like 2023 is when I first saw the topic being discussed but there's probably people talking about LLMs and text to image models with the same issues regarding stolen training data etc earlier than that
