I've been following a guide for system transferring from my (years ago) modded old3ds to my freshly modded newXL, however I'm hearing conflicting things on whether to use the Wireless or PC transfer. Something about different cfw versions being bad for the PC based one. Is it safe for everything I have on there? Can I get some quick clarification? thanks. (if it helps I don't think i've system updated my old3ds in a while)

Ok thanks but is it certainly ok to do with 2 different cfw versions and 2 different system firmware versions
I mean, you should update. Theres no reason to have an outdated system version after you mod, and theres no reason to have outdated cfw at all.
Eh I guess that's true, just wanted to avoid fumbling too much with the old one
You should have universal updater, just update luma on the old one and update system versions on both, its part of the guide to update.
No yeah the new one is already up to date, there is a guide for updating luma right
A complete guide to 3DS custom firmware
Ok tysm
Last question concerning this, at the part during the system transfer where I'm made to replace the Nintendo 3DS folder with the old one, is it alright to just entirely swap the SD card? I've got a few cfw things on the old SD card that I don't think will auto-move upon transfer and I'm not sure which they are or how many things are there
I'm assuming it should be okay since the 3DS only checks for the Nintendo 3DS folder and all the guide-assisted cfw files (luma, gm9, fbi, etc )match the new one's now, but just wanna make sure I don't irreparably screw something by doing that
And if doing that would affect whether I still need to add faketik as per the transfer instructions
wdym "a few cfw things that wont auto transfer"?
everything transfers over
nothing is left behind
Even extra cfw apps I might have downloaded post-hack on the old one?
everything
You should be prompted to transfer all files to the new 3ds from the old sd card, which will transfer those too
Ah okay, I hadn't seen this page at all
