Hey there! I recently aquired a new nintendo 3ds ll that had a bad left stick, i disassambled the console, restored the missing stick but now it just wont turn on anymore. It does charge, i feel the battery warming up, but i cant get the console to boot at all. Any tips?

tropic scaffold
#

oh, also no popping when i try to turn it on. already reseated the screen cables, but theres no difference

orchid urchin
#

@tropic scaffoldmake a pic of the mainboard and cables

tropic scaffold
#

Ill take another one when im back home, still at work

#

I reseated all of the cables yesterday, no success so far

orchid urchin
#

ok now it will sound stupid but unplug the analog stick cable

#

if your 3ds is modded dont put the sd card in. it boots fast in a bootchain loader

chilly axle
#

why would the analog stick cable do anything

orchid urchin
tropic scaffold
#

it just booted up again

#

The top screen is on, but has no picture? Lol

orchid urchin
#

@tropic scaffold which ribbon you reseated? maybe you miss placed the screen ribbon cable on the back

tropic scaffold
#

I didnt do much honestly, i powered it on and it just worked

#

I still need to figure out, how i need to "fold" the cable correctly, so that the mobo can fit

tropic scaffold
#

motherboard* xD

#

Now im getting a slight blue light, and it turns of immediately

#

inserted the sd card --> popping sound

#

Imma check the ribbons again

#

Sigj

orchid urchin
#

ow then maybe clean the sd card ribbon slot and reseat it

tropic scaffold
#

should be good, right?

tepid orbit
tropic scaffold
#

aye

tepid orbit
#

So they click in but won't work

tropic scaffold
#

Oh, i think that mf:

#

Wasnt properly in

tropic scaffold
#

aight, still a popping sound, bottom screen is flashing

#

i guess time to reseat it all aganeeee

orchid urchin
#

Red one pins must head down

#

Blue pins must be up side

#

I miss placed the red one once sooo yea

tropic scaffold
#

got it, ye

#

reinstalled the cables again

#

no pop, but just a flashing light and it turns off

tepid orbit
tropic scaffold
#

i guess imma buy a replacement cable thenß

#

are there replacement ribbon cables for both of em?

tepid orbit
#

Yes

tropic scaffold
#

thank fk

#

imma just do a whole reshell and replace it

#

thanks alot for the help lads! Heart

tropic scaffold
orchid urchin
tropic scaffold
#

nono, it started to boot after inserting the sd card

#

but, thats just a luma thing

orchid urchin
#

Ah kk

tropic scaffold
#

i got it to boot earlier with the bottom screen working

#

but even after i reseated the cable, wont boot

orchid urchin
#

Check if the slot is fully down

#

Cause sometimes the top part is to far up for conection

#

It counts for every ribbon that have this mechanic secure

tropic scaffold
tepid orbit
orchid urchin
#

Hmmm

#

True

tropic scaffold
#

A full pic

#

Everythings seated correctly i suppose

orchid urchin
#

I know I know it’s probably the screen ribbon cable I just wanted to say

tropic scaffold
#

Might've killed it earlier, the cable looks a bit crooked lmao

orchid urchin
#

Well on my new 3ds it looked worser but still works but you could have bad luck

#

And right now I see it

#

When doing the ribbon cables open the 3ds

#

Gives a bit more cable length

tropic scaffold
#

Ohhhh.

orchid urchin
#

😅

tropic scaffold
#

Im cooked

orchid urchin
#

Yep probably

tropic scaffold
#

But also relieved, since its only the cable

tepid orbit
tropic scaffold
#

Yessir

#

Yknow, took the mobo out

tepid orbit
#

I think that ribbon cable is the top LCD data

tropic scaffold
#

Oh?

orchid urchin
#

Back side ribbon is for the lcd (folded one)

tepid orbit
#

If it is then it would be part of the issue (why you were able to turn on the 3ds with the top screen not working) but it wouldn't explain why it's not turning on now

tepid orbit
orchid urchin
#

There is only one folded ^^

orchid urchin
tepid orbit
#

I mean which LCD ribbon cable is the folded one

#

That's what I'm trying to figure out

orchid urchin
orchid urchin
tropic scaffold
#

Thats exactly the one

#

Also the tutorial i used to "fold" the cable correctly

tepid orbit
#

I mean what is the function of the LCD cable? I think it's the data cable but I'm not sure

tropic scaffold
#

I mean, i had a black screen when i put it in reverse

#

so i guess data

tepid orbit
tepid orbit
tropic scaffold
#

Yessir

#

Shes putting it in like that

#

And before i fixed it, i had the contacts showing up

#

and thats how i fucked up, i suppose

#

Cable got a bit bent, seems like i bricked the cable doing that

#

See what i mean?

tepid orbit
#

The longer cable should be bent with both cables facing towards the motherboard

tropic scaffold
#

exactly

orchid urchin
tepid orbit
#

If you've put them in correctly then I would say replace the top LCD, the cables are likely damaged

tropic scaffold
#

i know, just for reference how bad the cable lookw

#

thats what it looked like before fixing kt

orchid urchin
#

Kk

#

Can you unplug it and make the cable straight and make a pic maybe you can see a damaged tray

tropic scaffold
#

I can do that! Sure

orchid urchin
#

If its on a good spot you can solder a thin cable before the broken tray and after the broken part

#

But easier way is a replacement screen

tepid orbit
#

That long cable is the data one, meaning it's not actually the reason the 3ds isn't turning on. But it is the reason the top screen was black when it did turn on. That means that cable isn't the only one with a problem

tropic scaffold
#

oooh boi

tepid orbit
#

Okay, after looking for a bit i can tell you that the cause for the 3ds not turning on is either that ribbon cable next to the data one we were just talking about

#

The motherboard connector (wide one next to abxy)

#

Power board connector

tropic scaffold
#

oh damn, i see

#

i could try to reseat it again

tepid orbit
#

Or bottom LCD backlight

tropic scaffold
#

Lemme disassemble the console again

#

and imma take a pic of the LCD connectors on the back of the mobo

#

Hold on tight

orchid urchin
#

Sure

tepid orbit
#

I'd guess that the issue is the cable next to the one we were talking about

#

I think red is causing the 3ds to not turn on and yellow is causing the top screen to not work when it did turn on

tropic scaffold
#

there you go

#

Hol up, discord sux agane

orchid urchin
orchid urchin
#

Not fully in

tropic scaffold
#

Better?

orchid urchin
#

You should not be able to see the robin cable pins when the lock is closed

tropic scaffold
orchid urchin
#

Yes

#

Now it’s in fully

tropic scaffold
#

Also good?

orchid urchin
#

Left side is slightly more out

orchid urchin
tropic scaffold
#

imma try it like that for now

#

since it doe get contact

orchid urchin
#

Sure good luck

tropic scaffold
#

guyd

#

you are both fucking geniouses

orchid urchin
#

works now?

tropic scaffold
#

holy shit

orchid urchin
#

nice ^^ good job now back to a happy live

#

i had same issues 2 days ago when i motherboard swaped 2 new 3ds xls cause i wanted ips pannels so badly

tropic scaffold
#

I feel ya, my top screen is ips

orchid urchin
#

i have dual ips

#

like my gf

tropic scaffold
#

oh shi

#

Sent you a dm btw

tepid orbit
orchid urchin
#

well it shorted again this time probably when he opened the 3ds fully cause the data cable was not fully in but now it works

tropic scaffold
#

Thanks alot again, friends!
