Thinking about buying a 3ds from japan as I live in the USA and the seller claims shipping is free on the page. Is this true? Will I not have to pay and duties or tariffs? When I go to checkout it shows the tax but no shipping cost so im wondering if I will be charged something more afterwards.

Honestly it's a case by case thing if you get with duties or not.
It depends on a few things.
- What site you are buying with.
Some will either let you know a possible duty fee may be required or include that cost in the total cost.
2.Some places it will be random and depends if they put an actual price and cost on the shipping papers.
I bought a few 2ds from Japan and had to pay import fees on one and not on the other.
