Some background information: I needed to learn how to take apart my 2DS XL to clean my thumb pad to stop drift. So I followed this guide ( https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+2DS+XL+Teardown/95977 ), suggested to me by someone in this server. As the guide suggested I used picks to open up the bottom, but when I used it down the left side (where the volume slider is), I heard a pop. I assumed it was just one of the snap-on parts disconnecting so I thought nothing of it until I saw a tiny square piece fall out (1st pic). I placed it to the side hoping it wasn't something crucial. I also found a small rectangle piece (2nd pic).

I successfully cleaned the circle pad and put the 2DS XL back together, turned it on, and noticed the volume slider wouldn't do anything. So I took it back apart and tried to figure out why it wasn't working. I held the blue slider cover over the actual slider (3rd pic) and couldn't understand how it was supposed to fit together. I finally realized what those small pieces were for. Surely enough I Googled it and saw what the slider was SUPPOSED to look like (4th pic).

At first I managed to fit the square piece back into its slot and tried piecing it back together multiple times, to no avail; it would only end up falling out. I still don't know what the rectangle piece (again, second image) was for, but I'm assuming it had to do with holding the square piece in place.

I really don't want to have to order a new slider just because I didn't know it was possible to break it off during the detachment process. I'm already peeved that I broke one thing while trying to repair another. At this point I'm willing to try anything before resorting to that. Any kind of workaround anybody can think of? Should I find a way to stick a piece of plastic to the blue slider cover itself so it doesn't detach that way? Anything?

Is this a suggestion for repairing the parts already broken, or are you saying I need to do this to replace the entire slider?
