But yeah there are many cracks in the ice so the vast majority just runs underneath

It's a continuous cycle

Snow accumulates on top and it becomes so compressed by its own weight that it turns into ice.
It then slowly slides forward moved by its immense weight
At the end of the glacier where my videos are filmed, it melts because it's lower altitude so warmer

Ideally it would melt as much as it accumulates in a year

Unfortunately with climate change, it melts more than it regenerates so every year it becomes smaller...

This insect is a 'velvet ant'!
though they are called ants, they are actually wingless wasps!!
both ants and wasps, along with anything else that stings are in the same order though, hymenoptera!!
the one i caught was wingless, meaning its a female, and only the females can sting! they are also known as cow killers for how badly their sting hurts :)
they are quite common in missouri, although they are hard to spot sometimes
