Hey guys, I built a Slate a few years ago, and have had this intermittent issue where the backlight will not turn on, but for some reason if I tap around the top left of the screen, I can get it to turn back on. Video below for reference. Initially I thought it could be shorting out, so I kinda over did it on the kapton tape to try to prevent this.

I’ll be the first to say I’m a novice with this kind of stuff and am eager to learn, so it’s likely this is user error. During my initial bench test, everything was working upon the install.

It’s my favorite handheld and I think the ergonomics are genius so I’m dying to get this thing figured out. If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears, especially since the replacement screens are all sold out.

Thanks in advance and

One thing I forgot to mention, I tried reseating both ends of the ribbon cables multiple times

as a sanity check, have you tried re-seating the connector for the display itself?

I have not but will definitely do that now

be careful with it, it's fragile

For sure, just unseated and reseated, no improvement

For those smarter than I am, if pressing on the screen lightly makes the issue go away, does that lead one to believe the backlight is shorting out on something?

my assumption would still be that there is bad contact somewhere
