hello! after successfully replacing the batteries in my ruby and sapphire carts, i don't know what went wrong with my emerald cart. after doing some research, it sounds like this problem has something to do with the ram, but i've checked it, cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol idk how many times, and brushed between pins with a soft toothbrush. does anything look wrong with it?

Please remember to provide as much information as possible including all troubleshooting steps you have already taken. If this is a hardware issue, please provide clear in-focus images of the issue, PCB (circuit board), installation, and any soldering you have done. Help us help you, posts with insufficient information will be deleted
Because this post has the "Game Cartridge" tag, we recommend checking out this wiki page https://gbwiki.org/en/other/commonissues#game-cartridge-problems
Heyo @deft cosmos 👋
I feel like you are using portrait mode for your photos, as the focus is very short, rendering most of the depth blurry
hi, sorry! i tried taking them focusing on different angles but the blur made things weird. hopefully these are better
Thanks
Did you confirm that the cart was functional before the battery swap ?
yes, it was working before
this has been mine since childhood and i haven't done anything with it until a few days ago
That's oxidized
How did you remove the battery ?
oh no, i soldered it off and used desoldering braid... i don't think i did anything special
is there any way it could be saved?
I was wondering if you used a hotplate or something that could have oxidized some area with traces of humidity...
The handling and heat probably gave the last hit to the trace
Nothing is lost but I need to know more about your soldering skills and tools
well i'm certainly not advanced, but if the game is messed up and i don't know anyone willing to fix it.... i can probably get the tools to attempt to fix it. also no i don't own a hotplate
forgot to mention i applied flux
do you have a gbxcart or know someone who does?
Where are you based ?
i'm in germany!
nope
If you would like to fix it yourself, I can give you some guidelines, but I'd be a worried about chances of success if you lack the tools and/or experience
@unborn wind is in Germany and might be willing to fix it for you
I am in France and I can also do it, but with the additional benefit of croissant smell on your cartridge (optional)
will my cartridge be buttery when it comes back to me?
i don't mind anything if anyone could fix it. that's much better than me breaking my poor cartridge. whoever fixes it for me.... do you have paypal?
I hear butter brings good luck and protection to the pokemons
out of curiosity, what would the guidelines be and tools i would need?
i'm so flabbergasted right now, those points aren't even near where i touched lol
Training boards
Trace repair training
Gear check (iron solder flux uv mask, visual enhancement, probably either hotplate or hot air... Stuff)
sounds cool and interesting and would like to practice but probably not on my cart
That's the issue here, this is an expensive cart
i don't want to sell it, i just want to play my game man🥲
but yeah if anyone could help, whoever, i can pay for postage there and back and labor. idk how much is a good amount though
should i close this thread and dm or something?
I meant the cartridge would be expensive to replace, + sentimental value, so let's not waste this cart
I will give @unborn wind the initiative here as he is in Germany and that would be cheaper
Nope you're good
Dein Postkasten is geschlossen.
Before anything, I forgot to ask
Do you own a multimeter ?
no... but i'm pretty sure i know someone who has one
If you have the opportunity you can confirm that the oxidation is an issue or not, with a continuity test
Note that if it's not yet, it will be at some point, most likely
that sounds so sad
I think corrupted data. dead, schick mir einfach eine pn wenn ich mir das ansehen soll. wenn ums eck bist kannst auch mit vorbei kommen.
Doing everything in reverse here, but I also forgot to ask if you had a Nintendo logo
yes, nintendo logo shows up
Ah, then yeah, a save data issue possible
Did you try the button combo to reset the save ?
I think you need to get to the title screen tho
i unfortunately can't get that far, after the gameboy nintendo logo disappears i just get a white screen
the board also seems a bit loose in the cartridge. i tried putting something to hold it in place but that didn't work
anyways i'm going to sleep, i can talk more later. good night and thank you for the info 🥐
weiterhin viel Spass damit.
Wäre toll wenn ich meine 2ds auch so reparieren kann
Habe kein touch
